History & Significance
Dussehra, also known as Vijayadashami, is celebrated on the tenth day of Ashwin month. It marks the day Lord Rama killed the ten-headed demon king Ravana, rescuing Sita. It also commemorates Goddess Durga's victory over Mahishasura. The word 'Dussehra' is derived from Sanskrit 'Dasha-hara', meaning the removal of the ten bad qualities represented by Ravana's heads (such as anger, greed, and ego).
